The emergence of LLMs (large-scale language models) like ChatGPT has had a major impact on the industry, and they are being used so extensively that it’s now difficult to find an organization that doesn’t use LLMs.

In particular, LLMs are most utilized in coding. Coding is used in a variety of ways: some, like GitHub Copilot, act as companions to help developers, while others, like Devin, generate applications from requests.

In software testing, there is a trend toward using AI in a wide range of areas, including test execution automation, test planning, and test design. Notably, tasks such as test design often require atypical requirements and specifications to be analyzed and usually have to be done by humans, but with generative AI, these tasks have become much easier to automate.

Another very unique change is that with LLM, tasks that used to require trained models can be done with a simple prompt and can now be easily integrated into OSSs. One example is CodeceptJS, an E2E automated testing OSS for web/mobile apps. It recently implemented an AI feature that uses LLM models such as ChatGPT for self-healing.

AI is being used in the DevOps toolchain in varying degrees,  but with the incredible advancement of generative AI, it’s being utilized in different ways.
